Paul would solidifiy Magic overnight

Chris Paul to Orlando makes sense in too many ways to count. Dwight Howard, a superstar in his own rite, will be lost on offense his entire career until he finds someone to direct it. Paul will be directing meaningless offenses his entire career until he finds someone to center it around. The Orlando Magic will not fall victim to the new mega team that wiped away competition just 220 miles down south in Miami. Best of all, they have the pieces to make it happen and to make it work this season.

Paul is slated to make just under $15 million this season. For the Magic to remain under the salary cap, one scenario could include Jameer Nelson, Brandon Bass and Mickael Pietrus. Another could involve Nelson with either one of them and a first round draft pick. A lineup that boasts Paul, Vince Carter, Rashard Lewis, and Howard would not only compete for the Eastern Conference title this season, it would match the Lakers size and give them a lightning fast point guard to deal with. It makes sense.

I’ve said it before: the Miami Heat will not win the title this year. They lack a perimeter defender to defend the top scorers in the league and they have no pure big man on the inside. They can easily be exploited in a 7 game series by the Lakers, Celtics and Magic. The Lakers and Celtics are a different story. Both have complete lineups and deep benches full of defenders, scorers, shooters and big men combined with experienced coaches. The Magic with Paul will be immensely difficult to beat. This truly smells of Magic, Worthy and Kareem. Paul doesn’t have the size of Magic but his speed and pure shooting ability will make up for it. Not to mention, they still have Carter, Chris Duhon, Marcin Gortat, Ryan Anderson and Quentin Richardson to round out the roster – a far better supporting cast than Miami has.

An Orlando Magic team led by Chris Paul will shift the balance of power to the Eastern Conference in a brutal way. The Chicago Bulls are no pushover having signed Carlos Boozer. The Atlanta Hawks had a better record than the Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics last season. The Milwaukee Bucks are only going to keep getting better as will the New York Knicks with Amare Stoudemire. Coupled with the retirement of Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and Steve Nash in the next 5 years, the Eastern Conference will be dominant once again. If nothing else, it will make the Heat’s eventual dominance that much harder. At worst, the Magic lose to the Heat in an awesome Eastern Conference Finals series every year. At best, it causes the Heat and Magic to alternate their title years. Even the Bulls will be hard pressed to beat either team down the road.

Chris Paul to the Orlando Magic makes sense…this is the part where Superman sheds his kryptonite and starts to fly down south to Miami and then out west to Los Angeles before landing outside the new Magic arena for a parade flashing that enormous smile knowing he will have a lot of fun in his basketball career facing the stars in Miami and the insanely skilled point guard in Chicago.

So, What do you think?
